New BenRiach Whiskies

July 23rd, 2008

I was just chatting with Alistair Walker of BenRiach, and he filled me in on the their new releases in the U.S. for the latter part of 2008.  Here’s the list:

BenRiach ‘Maderensis Fumosus’ 13YO Peated / Madeira Finish (46%)
BenRiach 16YO Sauternes Finish (46%)
BenRiach Limited Release 1977 cask 1029 (Ltd Rls Batch 5) – Moscatel Finish – (54.9%)
BenRiach Limited Release 1991 cask 6903 (Ltd Rls Batch 5) – Claret Finish –  (52.8%)
BenRiach 1991 cask 4490 (D&M Wines exclusive) – Gaja Barolo Wine Finish (57.5%)

This is on top of the 19 expressions that Alistair told me are already available here in the U.S., most of them with some sort of wine cask finish. Time for all you whisky drinkers to sharpen your knowledge of wine.

Look for these new BenRiach whiskies in the same locations as previous releases.

I had the opportunity to taste one of their Sauternes Finished from the barrel last year. Simply the best whisky I’ve ever had. Can’t wait for it to be released.

  2. John Hansell says:

While at the distillery in April, I tasted a 1991 Chateau d’Yquem finish whisky and it might be the same one. I look forward to the final version.
