Stranahan’s grows, moves, brews, grooves…

Stranahan’s, the maker’s of straight Rocky Mountain whisky, has outgrown its existing location and is moving to a larger one where they’ll be able to add more distilling equipment and make their own wash (distiller’s beer). The current distillery is closing today.

DENVER – Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey™, a distinctive small-batch whiskey cultivated in Colorado’s first-ever micro-distillery, has outgrown its current facility and will move to a larger facility at 200 South Kalamath Street in Denver on May 6th. 

The new, larger micro-distilling facility will enable Stranahan’s to better meet increasing demand by adding distilling equipment and increasing production. In addition, Stranahan’s will now be able to produce its own proprietary distiller’s wash, or mash, which was formerly supplied by Oskar Blues in Lyons, Colo.  This special four-barley fermented wash is part of what gives the Stranahan’s recipe its distinctive flavor.

“This move marks a new chapter for Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey,” said founder Jess Graber. “We’re thrilled that the demand for our small-batch whiskey has increased to the point where we need a larger facility.”

We wish the good folks at Stranahan’s all the best in their new location. And keep on making good, interesting whisky.

    I thought Flying Dog produced their mash, did this change to Oskar Blues?

    The only chance I’ve had to try it was at WhiskyFest Chicago the last few years. (A good reason to go to WF…the variety!). Jess is a very affable guy who makes an intriguing spirit that doesn’t easily fit in any other category. (Another good reason…meet the distillers!). I enjoy it, and wish it was available by the bottle here in PA. It would be an interesting variant to keep in the collection.

    All the best to Jess. I’m glad he”l noe be controlling all aspects of production. Considering the economy, this is especially good news!

  4. Jess alluded to this way back at WhiskyFest in New York. Glad to see it’s finally happening.

    Kevin, Flying Dog made the Stranahan’s wash up until they moved their production to Maryland. That’s when Oskar Blues took over, although with a new brand on the market and their distribution channels clamoring for more, I’m sure they’ll be as happy as Jess to see all production centralized.

    Glad to hear of their growth. Stranahan’s is one of my favorite “oh, hey, you *have* to try this” bottles.

    I am lucky enough to know of a few places that have some bottles in stock.

    I’ve been a huge fan of bourbon for sometime and recently started getting into Scotch. This seem like a interesting mix of both worlds.

    I might have to go ahead and grab a bottle.

    I’m a fan of this stuff and even took a tour of the distillery during my 4hrs in Denver last summer. Any chance the increased production will bring with it lower prices???? At $60 its a bottle I enjoy, but can’t afford to keep constantly stocked in the cabinet.
