GlenDronach Single Cask, Batch #1

July 17th, 2009

The new owners of GlenDronach just announced their first series of single cask bottlings. Full details follow in the press release I received this morning.

GlenDronach Releases Single Cask Batch One

The new owners of GlenDronach Distillery have selected five vintagglendronach-2972483-front2es for their first series of single cask bottlings since taking over the distillery last year.
In Batch One they have singled out malts from 1971, 1972, 1992, 1993 and 1996 in ages ranging from 38 to 13 years old.

All five are in the traditional GlenDronach style – richly sherried, from Oloroso Sherry Butts – and are being bottled this month.

Regional Sales Director Alistair Walker said: “Dating back to 1826, there have been few if any single cask bottlings from GlenDronach, so the launch of Single Cask Batch One is particularly significant and will be welcomed by our customers.

“We will repeat this exercise each year, hand-selecting a small number of the very best casks from the distillery warehouses to release as Single Cask bottlings.”

Alistair added: “Each will be bottled at cask strength, at natural colour and non chill filtered. Bottles will be individually numbered by hand and will be housed in a deluxe gift box.”

Batch One is being marketed in fifteen countries worldwide, with shipments to the UK, Europe, South Africa, Asia and New Zealand scheduled for the first week of August.

The full cask list is:

1971 cask 483, 38 years old
1972 cask 719, 37 years old
1992 cask 1140, 16 years old
1993 cask 523, 16 years old
1996 cask 193, 13 years old

  1. B.J. Reed says:

If anyone samples any of these please post – Would love to know if they are worth the investment.

  2. JohnM says:

Parker’s Whisky Shop have a couple of single casks being released about now. A 14-year-old and a 17-year-old.

I think they were picked by the staff at Parker’s and Jim Murray.

I pre-ordered a couple, but have not received them yet. Should have them soon.

Any idea of the prices on the new releases?

  3. Rich says:

apparently they’re starting their own run similar to the Glenfarclas “The Family Casks” series. having been very impressed by the 1968 Glendronach and the Glendronach 33 year, i’m guessing (hoping?) these will be quite good, and i’d certainly like to try one or two, especially if the price is anywhere near reasonable…

  4. Harvey Fry says:

what they did/have done with BenRiach should
be more than enough to convince every whisky
person alive that the Walkers know what they
are doing. & Sherry lovers, th’make of this
distillery is right up there with Macallan &
Glenfarclas in its ability to turn all kinds
of sherrywood into absolute liquid magic^

    take the plunge^

  5. John Hansell says:

JohnM. These might be different than Parker’s. I tweeted about the Parker’s whiskies yesterday.

Those are 1992 and 1994 vintages. I don’t have info on pricing yet.

    Harvey, you are 100% correct!

  6. magnus says:

    this will come to sweden:
    1970, cask 1035, 38Yo
    1978, cask 4414, 31Yo
    1984, cask1048, 24Yo

  7. patrick says:

    Hi Magnus,
So Sweden will have their own single cask bottlings? Could you already reserve them?

    BJ Reed:
I tasted last year at the Whisky-Live Paris an advanced sample of the 1972: It was slightly wood-tannic, but very rich and intense, complex, with aromas of blueberries and other wild berries, with a long finish. An excellent Glendronach, very sherry (and not rubbery). Regarding other tasting notes, I think we will have to wait until someone open its bottle.

  8. magnus says:

hmm dont know really thats the answer i got from the company here in sweden.
    no cant reserve them yet

  9. Todd says:

I predict these will be great single casks. The Walkers have done wonders with Benriach and we should expect the same with Glendronach. Yum! Sherry casks!

  10. magnus says:

sry, the company sent me wrong information this was the benriach single cask…

  11. […] As you know, there’s a new line of GlenDronach whiskies coming out. There’s also a new line of single cask GlenDronach whiskies which I have already blogged about here. […]

  12. John Hansell says:

    Todd, I am optimistic too!

  13. Now you can try some of these Glendronach’s from our sample site
