When The Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 was passed, it was the first consumer protection legislation in the history of the United States. Nine years before we regulated the safety of our food through the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906, we were more concerned about our whiskey!
Some people say that Bottled-in-Bond is from a bygone era when revenue agents lived at the distilleries. However, this designation still exists and more and more mixologists and consumers from around the world want to “Stay Bonded.” Find out why Heaven Hill’s Whiskey Ambassador Bernie Lubbers, a.k.a The Whiskey Professor, is so passionate about “Bonds” (be sure to ask to see his tattoo).
