WhiskyFest Speaker - Bernie LubbersBernie Lubbers
Brand Ambassador
Heaven Hill Distilleries

Bernie Lubbers is the newest Brand Ambassador for Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc.  A veteran comedian of 25 years and an accomplished author, he is not only entertaining, but also extremely knowledgeable about Bourbon. Dubbed The Whiskey Professor, he can tell you more about Bourbon than you ever thought possible.

Bernie’s draw toward Bourbon is natural.  His grandfather was one of 13 saloon keepers who started the Falls City Brewing Company in Louisville, KY back in 1905. His father also worked there for 45 years.  “Before you make whiskey, you’ve got to make beer,” Bernie says.

Throughout the year, Bernie spends time at the Bourbon Heritage Center in Bardstown, Kentucky where he learns first hand from Parker and Craig Beam, sixth and seventh generation Master Distillers.  He travels over 100,000 miles a year talking about Heaven Hill’s brands including Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, Larceny, Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey, Henry McKenna and numerous other award winning brands.

Bernie created a one of a kind tasting event made from the diverse Whiskey portfolio that only Heaven Hill could provide. During this “Evolution of Bourbon Tasting”, people hear about the history of how Bourbon came to be the native spirit of the United States.  They also are able to see, smell, feel, and taste how Bourbon started as un-aged corn whiskey, and ended up as this aged, pure red amber American whiskey.

Bernie is also a master at reading Bourbon labels. You can find out where a whiskey is made, the age, the proof, and much more just by reading the label. By knowing this, you can learn much more about a Whiskey/Bourbon before making a purchase or taking your first sip. Bernie describes just how to do this in his book “Bourbon Whiskey – Our Native Spirit”.

“Bourbon Whiskey – Our Native Spirit” is Bernie’s recently published book on Bourbon. The book includes a comprehensive overview on Bourbon including how it’s distilled and aged, why it was distilled, and how it became aged in the first place.  Along the way you’ll discover Bourbon’s rich history and intriguing stories that dove tail with the history of the U.S. itself. It is published by Blue River Press and now available nationwide in select Books-A-Million, amazon.com BN.com, amazon.com, on kindle and Nook, and from his own website/blog/calendar of appearances; www.whiskeyprof.com

Bernie’s new, fresh approach of giving entertaining yet informative presentations, including leading audiences to recite his self-written Bourbon pledge, has not gone unnoticed. Bernie has been named Global Whiskey Ambassador of the Year by Whisky Magazine at Whisky Live! in London, England in both 2009 and 2012.
