Live Twitter review for this week: The new Laphroaig 18 yr. old

September 14th, 2009

For those of you who are interested, I’ll be reviewing the new Laphroaig 18 year old this Wednesday, September 16th, @4pm live on Twitter. I’ll be comparing it to the other Laphroaig expressions (10, Cask Strength, 15, Quarter Cask, 25, 30, etc.).

If you want to, follow along (http://twitter.com/JohnHansell). I’ll be sticking around to answer questions afterwards. If you can’t make it, no worries. I’ll post up my review here soon thereafter.

  1. John,

Can’t wait to read your thoughts on the 18. I received mine about six weeks ago and was somewhat underwhelmed. The other Laphroaigs, and especially the new 25, are stunning. I couldn’t tell the 18 was a Laphroaig. In that range I’ll stick with the 15 — it’s still a knockout, even though it’s a thing of the past for now.

Two-bit, I didn’t know it was in the U.S. six weeks ago. I’m looking forward to reviewing it (and comparing it to the 15).

  3. Red_Arremer says:

I had some 18 a week or so ago, myself. It’s ok, but it can’t touch the 15… and it’s going for upwards of 150$…

  4. Another clear example of “to each their own.” I poured several drams for folks (gals and guys) who don’t care for the 15, and they liked it. About $110 here.

  5. […] know some of you have already expressed your thoughts here on this whisky. I think it is a departure from the 15 year old it replaces in some ways. I like […]
