Review: Royal Lochnagar Selected Reserve

January 17th, 2010

Royal Lochnagar Selected Reserve, 43%, $210
So nice to (finally) see this whisky available here in the U.S. again. A more mature, more sherried expression of the standard Royal Lochnagar. Rich, silky, and sweet, with molasses, nutty toffee, old demerara pot still rum, caramelized fig, marmalade, and juicy oak. More subtle notes of honeyed ginger, coffee grounds and tobacco leaf add complexity. A soothing post-prandial dram.

    No age statement, Red.

Surprised that there is NAS given the price and expectation in the US market. I know they recently also introduced a Distiller’s Edition – any chance that we’ll see the DE and the standard 12 yo coming to our shores?

  10. John Hansell says:

    Alex, we can only hope.
