Jura Prophecy, Dalmore 18 yr. old heading to the U.S.

February 22nd, 2010

As you will see by the pictures here, this past week I received review samples of both Jura Prophecy and Dalmore 18. Here’s the information I have.

Both have recently been bottled and are on their way to the U.S., with distribution in the April/May time frame.  They will have national distribution. Prices: $70 for the Jura, $150 for the Dalmore.

I had a wee taste of both, and both are nice. I compared the Prophecy to Superstition (the other smoky Jura). Prophecy is smokier, richer, heavier, deeper. Yum! Formal reviews coming soon.

Definitely in time for Whiskyfest NY!

I absolutely LOVE the Dalmore expressions, and Jura Superstition is one of my favourite drams. If I can find anywhere that offers them when they arrive, I’ll be quick to add these to my stock.

Any idea of the ABV for these two? I hope the Dalmore is better than 40% at that price.

I will probably take a pass on the Dalmore 18 as $150 is just crazy (in fact I had to read it again to make sure that $150 was correct). I think they are headed for a Glenmo type wake up. Glenmo 18 came out at $150 here but is now selling for under $100. I am mildly tempted by the Jura but I will wait for reviews before making a final decision.

I’m with you – when did 18 yo malt have to equal $100+ a pop?!? Macallan was so aggressive pushing their 18 yo into the stratosphere while Glenmorangie you might find for $100-110, which is starting to seem like a bargain (found it for $75 in VT!).

It’s nice to see Isle of Jura coming out with something new. I always like the Superstition. For whatever the reason, the whole line dropped off the map in my area.

    Full size review samples?!?! Nice.

  8. Red_Arremer says:

Yeah, well superstition was a lot better priced than prophecy in my area…
