Tomorrow: My review of the Ardbeg Supernova (2010 release)

May 20th, 2010

I received my review bottle yesterday while I was out of town on business. I’ll be reviewing it formally today, comparing it to last year’s release (see picture), and posting up my review here tomorrow.

Something to look forward to. Stay tuned!

I can’t wait to see your review. From memory they were very much the same, with a few little extras–such as the touch of earth and the grassy notes;however, that’s going off of memory and not a side by side comparison.

We were treated to a sample of the SN2010 at the Ardbeg Committee Party in Chicago post-Whiskyfest. Absolutely fantastic. I personally liked it better than the first release, although higher in alcohol (60.1%), it was more grounded. A better balance with the peat and grass, some citrus that helped bring the Supernova back to Earth.

      Agreed. Well stated, too.

Nicely put–I tried it at the party myself, in fact I chatted with you about the Ardbeg Bloody Marys. I was the guy that called you at the Dell about the Ardbeg 67.

Looking forward to it – living vicariously through WDJK tasting notes!

Ever intrigued by the names distilleries give their children, I looked up supernova in my Funk and Wagnals. And then I had to look up magnitude, absolute magnitude, and parsec. The math became too much so I concluded a supernova is a bright and shining star. Reckon we’ll see tomorrow if that’s true.

    We are stil waiting John!

Tried a few of prior releases at a masterclass recently and was quite dissapointed. It wasn’t whisky I would buy at normal prices even. Diageo should hire me to select casks instead of the managers, I could do it better

The above was posted in wrong thread :-)

An Ardbeg Supernova Single Cask Manager’s (or Steffen’s) Choice! I envision about $1000+ a bottle for such a rarity. :)
