This peated-cask finish opens with a nose of ashy smoke, grilled bacon fat, maritime notes, a hint of pine floor cleaner, lemon shortbread, bread crust, and pepper. Initially, there is apple, citrus peel, pear, and honey sweetness, while other flavors wait their turn: smoke, pepper, cocoa, malt, toffee, and vanilla. It’s certainly tasty, but it didn’t feel like the peat smoke had fully integrated into this Yorkshire single malt. (1,398 bottles for the U.S.)
