A new Glenmorangie 25 year old single malt scotch is being released in the Glenmorangie Heathrow Boutique in the airport’s Terminal 2. Limited to 1,000 bottles as a Travel Retail exclusive, the whisky was distilled using the distillery’s exceptionally tall stills and matured in bourbon barrels for 10 years before being filled into Pommard red wine French oak casks for its 15 year secondary maturation. Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s director of whisky creation, is a serious wine connoisseur who has used his extensive wine knowledge to push the boundaries of wine cask-finishing throughout his career, undertaking numerous experiments and cask trials. Pommard is an appellation in Côte de Beaune, part of Burgundy, named after Pomona, the Roman goddess of abundance. The region is known for producing intense and powerful wines from Pinot Noir grapes.

The new release follows the Glenmorangie Sonoma-Cutrer Reserve 25 year old, a 1,000 bottle release from 2021. While there are plenty of 25 year old scotch whiskies to choose from, Glenmorangie has retired its 25 year old Quarter of Century expression. The distillery has regularly explored wine cask finishing in Burgundy casks over the past 25 years however, with bottlings including Glenmorangie 1975 25 year old Côte de Nuits Wood Finish, Glenmorangie Burgundy Wood Finish, Glenmorangie 12 year old Côte de Beaune Finish, Glenmorangie 12 year old Château de Meursault Wood Finish, and Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1991.

Bottled at 51.6% ABV, Glenmorangie Pommard Wine Cask Finish is priced at £2,100 (approximately $2,650) and is available exclusively in Heathrow for now, but is expected to appear in other Travel Retail outlets over time.
