The Three Societies Distillery opened in 2020 in Namyangju. The savory nose is spicy with beef satay, ramen bowls, sliced almond, white pepper, seasoning mixes, dried fruit, and fresh-sawn oak. Astringent oak tannins dominate the proceedings, with flavors of baked orange, clove, apple peels, pink peppercorns, savory seasoning, fruit chews, cola candies, and herbal notes. It’s young whisky matured in new oak casks; water doesn’t dispel those tannins easily. (198 bottles)
