Lost Lantern Ironroot Republic Texas Straight Bourbon Single Cask, 68.65%

On the nose there are aromas of torched caramel, vanilla, charred oak, orange, a touch of char, and some lovely burnt (but not smoky) notes. A blast of spiced vanilla on the nose and charcoal. It needs a bit of water and holds it very well. There are flavors of black cherry, chocolate, and whisky-drenched poundcake sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Hot but not too hot, sweetness balanced, the texture is very smooth and the finish is sustained, lots of vanilla. Remarkable how this hot climate whisky maintains its cool structure and poise.
