Update July 25, 2025: As of this month, Macallan’s boutique within LAX’s Tom Bradley International Terminal is a permanent fixture within the airport. This is the distillery’s first full-time retail installation on the West Coast, and it joins permanent outposts at London Heathrow and Dubai international airports, as well as The Macallan House in Hong Kong and Singapore, among others.

Macallan is no stranger to supplementing its whisky with artful touches, having debuted various art installations and limited-edition prints for its new releases over the years. Now, the distillery is bringing an interactive, visually alluring pop-up to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), designed specifically for its Travel Retail-exclusive Colour Collection.

Located in LAX’s Tom Bradley International Terminal (also known as Terminal B), the new installation highlights the Colour Collection, which is comprised of five single malts aged 12 ($80), 15 ($180), 18 ($380), 21 ($1,280), and 30 ($4,600) years old. As the collection’s name implies, the focus here is on the range of colors derived from maturation in sherry casks; as the whisky gets older, its shade evolves from deep golden to darker chestnut and mahogany hues. The pop-up’s look and feel were inspired by collage art created by graphic designer David Carson—a longtime collaborator of Macallan’s, and the artist behind numerous limited edition Macallan labels—and a gallery wall featuring his artwork is on display.

Curious shoppers can take part in a variety of sensory and digital experiences, among them a nosing tray—where the aromas of each whisky in the range are available to explore—and a digital profiling tool called “Discover Your Expression,” that helps steer travelers toward their ideal Colour Collection release. The pop-up also offers customized gifting services, wherein customers can personalize their bottles. Those who purchase the 21 or 30 year old bottlings will also be able to get their hands on a giclée art print of the Carson collage on display, a limited number of which he created, serialized, and signed for the pop-up.

In addition to the Colour Collection, the pop-up will also feature other limited edition, archival, or Travel Retail exclusives, including the Harmony Collection: Green Meadow, Macallan Estate, A Night on Earth: The Journey, Folio 7, and M Collection single malts. The installation was created in collaboration with LAX and luxury travel retailer DFS Group, and is set to run through November.
