Old Elk Rum Barrel Finished, 50.5%

From the first pour, the rum influence shines above all else for this 95% rye, 5% malted barley whiskey. On the nose there’s raisins, molasses, and tiramisu, with only the herbal backbone giving away the whiskey’s main grain. The palate is similarly structured, the flavors leading with overripe banana, an unctuous sugary sweetness, and base notes of fennel, cinnamon, and mint. The finish is more straightforward, with hot chocolate and cinnamon, and toasted baking spices.
