Rieger Sweet Mash, 45%

Despite a mashbill of 96% rye, this whiskey is a gentle example of American rye. On the nose, there’s sweet cornbread dusted with pepper, sweet and spicy cinnamon candies, and a whisper of mint. The palate is similarly tame, with chai, vanilla, and Mexican hot chocolate. The whiskey is well-balanced and maybe just a little too tame; the flavors and aromas are cohesive but light. The finish follows suit with gentle pepperiness and milk chocolate.
