Nashville’s Rutledge Hill neighborhood is tranquil and charming, yet it’s right downtown and only minutes away from all the city has to offer. Rutledge Hill is also where you’ll find Husk Nashville, located within a stately Victorian mansion. But inside, there’s nothing quaint about this restaurant’s design, which is ultra-modern and airy, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and a bar off the dining room that crafts contemporary cocktails, highlighting whiskeys from local producers including Nelson’s Green Brier, Willett Distillery, and Bardstown Bourbon Company.

The place has an extensive whiskey list, with over 35 bourbon offerings that feature 2-ounce pours of anything from Four Roses Small Batch Select ($22) to Nelson Bros. Mourvèdre Cask Finish ($36), with rye coming in second, featuring more than a dozen options to choose from, including Elijah Craig ($15) and Whistle Pig 12 year old ($49). A small selection of scotch and international whiskies is also available.

But Husk Nashville wouldn’t be a whiskey lover’s haven without its more rarified selections. Choose from 1-ounce or 2-ounce pours of Wild Turkey Master's Keep Voyage ($51, $102), Belle Meade Honey Finished ($49, $96), or Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year old ($40, $80). Husk also has its own single barrels of Willett Family Estate that currently include Husk 2017 5 year HUSK Barrel 3233 ($30, $60), Screaming Peanuts 9 year old HUSK Barrel 4765 ($45, $90), .2 Cents 10 year old Rye HUSK Barrel 2413 ($50, $100), and Ambrosia 11 year old HUSK Barrel 4243 ($60, $120).

Any of these whiskeys can easily complement the restaurant’s hearty dishes, which rotate regularly and celebrate the South by using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients to offer bear creek beef tartare, kentuckyaki glazed pig ears, baby back ribs, New Orleans barbecue shrimp, and catfish with buttermilk cheddar biscuits to share with the table.

Husk’s cocktail apothecary program uses fresh herbs from its on-site garden to create tinctures, cordials, bitters, amari, and shrub vinegars. Some of its featured cocktails include The Barbenheimer (vodka, strawberry shrub, lemon, Aperitivo Select, and soda), Blackberry Smartphone (gin, blackberry shrub, Amaro Oscura, and lime), Ghost In The Machine (mezcal, Aquavit, holy basil, passion fruit, and citrus), and Rain In The Valley (bourbon, madeira, brown sugar, and Togarashi) all priced at $17 each along with the Father Figure (Husk Elijah Craig, vermouth, cocoa bitters, and absinthe) for $22.

Husk also has locations in Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina. All three have a solid whiskey selection, though Husk Nashville is the best when it comes to whiskey.
