The Akkeshi Peated Single Malt 2021 Boshu Season, 55%

Price: 375 Issue: Winter 2022 Reviewer: Jonny McCormick Category: Japanese Single Malt

Japan’s Sekki system divides the solar calendar into 24 seasons: The sowing of the grain represents the 9th season. Chocolaty peat, barbecue smoke, chile flakes, paprika, light orchard fruits, strawberry mousse, and Tabasco on fruit; it’s spicy more than smoky. Pear, gummy bear, cherry; it’s spicy at cask strength, with cocoa, chocolate, and dark vanilla. Water certainly helps here, nudging out greater fruitiness, citrus notes, more apple, and vanilla.
