When two titans of scotch whisky joined forces to make a new range of premium blends, they channeled more than a century of combined whisky industry experience into the collaboration. Wolfcraig, from industry veterans Richard Paterson and Ian MacMillan, is making its U.S. debut with three new limited-edition scotches. Paterson is best known for his work at Whyte & Mackay on The Dalmore, while MacMillan worked for Burn Stewart Distillers on Bunnahabhain, Tobermory, and Deanston for 24 years, before moving to Bladnoch in 2015, then spending the rest of his career running his own consultancy business. In a statement, with a blended grain and two blended scotches to savor, we’ve got all the details on the new whiskies from these two master blenders.

The name Wolfcraig comes from a Scottish folklore tale dating back to the 9th century, when the howl of a wolf is said to have alerted guards in Stirling, helping to thwart a Viking raiding party. Wolves did not become extinct in Scotland until centuries later. Founded in 2020, Wolfcraig Distillers initially launched a cask ownership scheme with the intention of filling barrels for early supporters at a new distillery to be built in Stirling, 26 miles northeast of Glasgow. Things didn’t go according to plan, as the local authority twice refused to grant the project planning permission. Wolfcraig Distillery was never constructed, but with Paterson and MacMillan on board, the company refocused on selling small batch, luxury whiskies instead, launching their first blend in 2023. Now having joined the González Byass USA portfolio, this trio of blends is available in the U.S. for the first time.
