Near Eastern Julep [Cocktail Recipe]
May 2, 2017 –––––– Whisky Advocate
In this recipe from Doc Crow's Southern Smokehouse and Raw Bar in Louisville, Kentucky, the traditional Julep swaps in basil for mint and gets a spicy kick from Becherovka liqueur.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 oz. Old Grand-Dad Bottled-in-Bond bourbon
- ½ oz. Becherovka liqueur
- ½ oz. ginger syrup (see note)
- Basil leaves, plus 1 leaf for garnish
DIRECTIONS
Rub basil leaves along the inside of a double Old Fashioned glass, then add the bourbon, liqueur, and syrup. Fill the glass with crushed ice and swizzle for 5 seconds. Garnish with a slapped basil leaf.
Note: To make ginger syrup, steep peeled ginger in a ratio of 1-to-1 water to sugar.
