Those planning a trip to Buffalo Trace next month are in for a surprise—the distillery has just announced its new Charred & Chilled Festival, a wintertime pop-up that will run Thursday to Sunday throughout February.
The festival will be heavy on winter accents, with neat tastings held at an ice bar and igloos standing in as cocktail lounges. Confections from Rebecca Ruth Candy—which makes Buffalo Trace bourbon chocolates—will also be on hand, as will a variety of outdoor games. On February 5th, 14th, 21st, and 28th, Charred & Chilled ticket holders will also enjoy live ice sculpting.
While distillery tours and walk-in tastings will run as usual throughout February, reservations are required for the Charred & Chilled Festival, priced at $35 per ticket. Ticket holders will leave with rocks glasses and ice molds. You can purchase a ticket via the Buffalo Trace website; as of now, plenty of dates and time slots remain open, but reservations are going fast. An entry time is required, though once in, you can stay as long as you’d like (the distillery estimates it'll take roughly an hour to go through all of the festival's stations).
Buffalo Trace regularly creates visitor attractions at both its home base and abroad; last year, for instance, the distillery embarked on a four-city U.S. tasting tour in the fall that included a 90-minute guided tasting experience, and in December, it put on its 27th annual Holidays at the Trace celebration.
If you can't make it out to Frankfort this February, but still want a go at imbibing in an igloo, you're in luck: These bars across the country offer up igloo-style seating. While their whisky selections are top-tier, they also offer food, and some have blankets and Bluetooth speakers to boot.
