Ardbeg Dolce Embraces the Sweet Life
The 2026 Fèis Ìle release offers marsala cask sweetness with the smoke

Fèis Ìle, Islay’s Festival of Music and Malt, kicks off next month, with the festivities for Ardbeg Day taking place on Saturday, May 30th. This year, the Ardbeg Committee is inviting fans to live la dolce vita with its annual festival release, which balances sweetness and smoke. The limited edition non-age stated expression combines bourbon cask-matured stock, the backbone of classic Ardbeg releases, with Ardbeg matured in casks that previously held marsala dolce, a sweet fortified Sicilian wine.

Ardbeg Dolce’s packaging is inspired by the iconic style of 1960s Italian cinema. The whisky’s box features a collage of Ardbeg Distillery imagery, but like a good movie, it’s packed with Easter eggs for Committee members: visual references to cinema and southern Italian culture. Amid the pot still, peat stacks, and pagodas, we spotted a vintage movie camera, an aerial shot of Pizzo, Calabria, a brown Italian postage stamp, an olive branch, striped beach parasols, 35mm movie film unspooling from reels, bay leaves, a sheep rocking a diamante necklace and sheared to look like a poodle, oranges and lemons, a painted Sicilian ceramic plate featuring the Trinacria, flowering basil, a marsala cask, an ornately decorated Sicilian cart or Carretta, and an Oscar-ready Shortie (Ardbeg’s canine mascot) sporting a bow tie.
So far this decade, Ardbeg’s Fèis Ìle bottlings have received impressive ratings:
2025 – 94 points - Ardbeg Smokiverse
2024 – 93 points - Ardbeg Spectacular
2023 – Ardbeg Heavy Vapours
2022 – Ardbeg Ardcore
2021 – 93 points - Ardbeg Scorch
2020 – 92 points - Ardbeg Blaaack
Whether you plan to be on Islay or attend one of the global committee events, Ardbeg Day usually involves dressing up, embracing the theme, and getting into the spirit. Each year, the distillery brings the celebration to life with themed food, entertainment, and plenty of fun and games. Channeling the style and sophistication of Fellini’s cinematic classic, the dress code for Ardbeg Day 2026 will be all about the sun-drenched glamour of the Italian Riviera—Islay-style. Expect guests sporting cat-eye sunglasses, silk headscarves, and tailored suits or going spezzato-style.

The nose strikes a balance between ripe apricot and peat smoke, with orange blossom, wet wool, iodine, creamy orange fondant, apple pie filling, and a pinch of nutmeg. Creamy and fruity on the palate, the initial lemon curd notes are joined by bitter orange, Santa Rosa plum, and a gentle pepperiness. The creaminess yields to an unctuous oiliness, with papaya, cherry pâtes de fruit, cassia bark, licorice, and dried herbs. The thick, mouth-coating finish offers cacao, sooty oak, nutmeg, and driftwood beach bonfires. Water kills the fruity sweetness, making it savory and much spicier, adding earthy aromas, morels, and meaty Gordal Picante olives, and flavors of chile flakes, hot paprika, and briny green olives on the palate.
