Visitors to Loch Lomond, Scotland, have a new whisky destination to explore, as Luss Distillery officially opens its doors. Nestled in the picturesque village of Luss on the banks of the loch, just about an hour’s drive from Glasgow, Loch Lomond Group’s new, multi-million-dollar visitors center offers a wide range of experiences for whisky and gin explorers alike. Built on the site of a former smokehouse, its architecture reflects the natural beauty of the area, in a setting that offers panoramic views of the Highlands.
Loch Lomond Distillery isn’t open to the public, so Luss Distillery provides the perfect alternative. As the new brand home for Loch Lomond-owned whiskies and Ben Lomond gin, it offers an immersive whisky and gin discovery area, the Ben Lomond Gin Distillery, a retail shop, and a café serving local fare. The tasting bar and store includes the opportunity to try and buy expressions from Loch Lomond Group’s Glen Scotia Distillery, which is handy for visitors who don’t have time to make the long journey to visit the distillery in Campbeltown. It’s also a great opportunity to pick up rare and exclusive bottlings not available in the U.S. market. The store stocks collectible closed-distillery expressions from Loch Lomond Group’s Littlemill, as well as its Spearhead single grain, and the Noble Rebel blended malt range, which are not available stateside.
The Luss Distillery Discovery Center is self-guided, with immersive and interactive experiences allowing visitors to explore the artistry and craftsmanship behind the brands. Through the online booking portal, whisky lovers can arrange a tasting without a tour of the gin distillery, choosing between the 30-minute Explorer tasting for approximately $20 or the 60-minute Adventurer tasting for about $34. The shorter tour offers pours of three styles of Loch Lomond 12 year old, including the signature serve, known as Perfectly Balanced, which has a touch of smoke, the orchard fruits of Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 12 year old, and the smoky pleasures of Loch Lomond Inchmoan 12 year old. The Adventurer tasting includes six Loch Lomond drams from the core range, with a taste of some more exclusive limited editions or distillery-only releases; the whiskies will vary depending on availability. For gin drinkers, Luss offers three tiers of gin tour and tasting experiences, enabling visitors to go behind the scenes in the still house, check out the botanicals lab, sample various gins, and even blend their own to take home.
Loch Lomond Group whiskies have gained greater visibility in the U.S. market since partnering with Foley Family Wines & Spirits on an import and distribution deal in 2024. While Loch Lomond Group acquired New York Distilling Company in May 2025, its spirits have yet to appear on the shelves at Luss Distillery, but the team expects the ryes and other spirits will be available at Luss in the future. In the meantime, visitors can explore the key whiskies from Loch Lomond and Glen Scotia—here’s our take on what to look out for during your visit.
